GCIP is built using publicly available technical information from qualified industrial manufacturers, government resources, regulatory references, technical literature, and other authoritative public sources.

Manufacturers included in the initial GCOS knowledge base were selected based on industry relevance, publicly available technical documentation, and domain expertise.

Every ontology object is reviewed, retains source provenance, and follows a governed publication process before becoming part of the shared knowledge standard.

Data acquisition policy

Public sources only

GCOS is built entirely from publicly available technical documentation. We do not acquire data through web scraping of proprietary systems, purchase of private databases, reverse engineering of competitor products, or any method that circumvents a manufacturer's intended public disclosure.

Acceptable source types include official manufacturer websites, publicly accessible Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Technical Data Sheets (TDS), product catalogs, specification documents, regulatory filings, and government reference databases.

If a document is not publicly accessible without authentication or a commercial agreement, it is not eligible for inclusion in GCOS.

Manufacturer selection

Trusted Source criteria

For a manufacturer to become a Trusted Source in GCOS, it must satisfy all of the following objective criteria. These are evaluated by our team before any product data is ingested.

Official public website

An active, identifiable web presence operated by the manufacturer.

Public SDS library

Safety Data Sheets accessible without login or commercial agreement.

Public TDS or product data

Technical Data Sheets or equivalent product specifications available publicly.

Public product catalog

A discoverable catalog of products with clear identification.

Clear product identification

Products identified by name, grade, or specification in a manner consistent across documents.

Document revision history

Version or revision tracking on technical documents, where available.

Active business presence

Evidence of current commercial activity — not a dormant or discontinued entity.

Human review completed

A member of the Galatika team has reviewed the source before it enters GCOS.

Every claim has a source

Each knowledge object in GCOS — whether a chemical property, a product specification, a compatibility note, or a regulatory classification — is linked to the source document from which it was derived.

This provenance chain means GCIP can surface not just an answer, but the document and manufacturer behind it. Procurement engineers can trace any platform output back to a primary source.

Provenance metadata includes: source type, manufacturer identity, document title, document date or revision, and retrieval date.

Human review process

Reviewed before it enters the standard

No manufacturer and no knowledge object enters GCOS through an automated pipeline alone. Every new source undergoes human review by a member of the Galatika team before it is accepted into the standard.

Review covers: source legitimacy, document authenticity, product identification consistency, and alignment with GCOS semantic entity definitions.

Records that fail review are excluded. Records that pass are tagged with review status and ingestion date.

AI governance

What GCOS does not use

No LLM-generated chemistry

GCOS does not contain chemical properties, specifications, or compatibility data generated by large language models. All technical content originates from manufacturer-issued documents.

No unverified web content

Forum posts, community wikis, unattributed blog content, and third-party aggregators without traceable primary sources are excluded.

No proprietary or licensed databases

GCOS does not incorporate data from commercial chemical databases that require licensing agreements for access.

No inferred specifications

If a property is not explicitly stated in a source document, it is not added by inference or interpolation.

No anonymous sources

Every knowledge object must be traceable to a named manufacturer and a specific document. Anonymous or unattributed technical claims are not eligible.

The GCOS knowledge standard

A living standard, not a static database

GCOS is maintained as a living standard. As manufacturers update their documentation, as new products enter the market, and as GCOS semantic entity definitions are refined, the knowledge base is updated accordingly.

Updates follow the same acquisition, review, and provenance requirements as initial ingestion. Outdated records are versioned, not deleted — preserving the historical state of the knowledge base for audit purposes.

The GCOS standard is the foundation for GCIP's platform capabilities and is available for licensing by organizations that require a structured, governed chemical knowledge layer.
